Charactics Cyborg and Walder destroy will to live

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

henshinwaruder.jpgWhen the proto’s showed up in March’s Hyperhobby, it was to be sure that they would be pretty amazing. To see them in their full-color glory is even better. When the first set of Walders and Invaders started coming in, they were certainly something people sought, but who could have imagined that Charactics would have taken the mini concept a step further with the walder subforms with guts. Then who you have predicted guts AND inner heads on these ones?!?! This set is apparently a Wonderfest 2008 exclusive; hopefully the line-bums won’t get all of them and leave a few for us poor souls.

Also noteworthy is another set of the Walder subforms in an untraditional colorscheme.

Night Shadow Mad Mantis

Friday, February 15th, 2008

Secret Base took us all by surprise with this new release of the “Night Shadow” Mad Mantis. It has been well over a year since the last release of the Mad Mantis sculpt, so a lot of the die-hard Secret Base collectors (myself included) are very excited to finally add another wacky two-headed creature to their collections. From the looks of this figure the body is made of clear vinyl and painted from the inside out, a similar paint technique used on the 13th Skull Bees. And the best part is… it glows!! I’m hopeful that the success of this release will bring many more Mad Mantises to us in the near future.

Real x Head Shop Opening and New Sculpt

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

rxh-honeborg.jpg On February 1, the Japanese toy company Real x Head opened their new shop in the Tokyo suburb of Aoto. To mark this occasion, a new sculpt was introduced: mohikan hone borg. Drawing from the style of traditional Noh theatre masks, this figure comes with an interchangeable hand attachment and this first release is a silver vinyl with gold spray. Hone Borg is a great new addition to the Real x Head lineup of figures and is sure to be the first of many new exciting releases we see from RxH this year.

Coop posts his toy collection

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

Artist and friend of kaiju, Coop, has posted a huge amount of photos of his kaiju collection. In his post on Positive Ape, he talks about how collecting this stuff pre-internet was so tricky. Not only did he have to scour stores to find them, but without the internet, there was no real resource to identify what he was missing. It’s indeed really hard to think about doing this as most collecting is 100% internet-based now.
